Spectrum Internet Self Installation Instructions

Download the My Spectrum App to Get Started

To install your new Spectrum equipment, download the My Spectrum App and follow the prompts for installation tips, equipment checklists, and activation instructions. You can also see our spectrum internet self installation instructions below for step-by-step help.

Package Delivery

Once you enter the My Spectrum app:

1. You'll see a message on your home screen notifying you that you have equipment to set up and activate. Start the process, and you'll be shown an Equipment List that details which of your devices are available for activation.

 

2. Select the device at the top of the list, and the app will take you through step-by-step instructions on how to connect and activate your piece of equipment.

3. Once you complete activation, you'll be brought back to the Equipment List to install any remaining devices.

Internet and WiFi Setup:

Step 1: Connect Modem

  • Connect one end of the coax cable to a cable outlet, then connect the other end to the modem.

​

Note: A coax splitter should be used if this cable outlet will be shared with a Spectrum Receiver for TV service. Visit spectrum.net/splitter for more.

​

  • Connect the power cable to the modem, then plug the other end into an electrical outlet.

  • Wait for the Online status light on the front of the modem to change from flashing to solid. This usually takes about 2-5 minutes, but may take up to 20 minutes if your modem needs a firmware update. When the status light turns solid, you'll know your modem is fully updated and connected.

Step 2: Connect Modem to Computer or WiFi Router

  • Connect the Ethernet cable to the modem, then connect the other end to your computer or the internet port on the back of your router.

  • Wait for the WiFi status light on the front of the router to turn solid green. This may take up to 10 minutes. If no light turns on, press the Power ON/OFF button on the back of the router, or unplug the router for a minute and then plug it back in.

Step 3: Connect a Device to Your Wireless Network

  • Your Spectrum issued WiFi network name (SSID) and password can be found on the equipment label on the back of the modem or router. On your wireless device (smartphone, laptop, tablet or streaming device), open WiFi settings. 

  • Then, select your default WiFi Network Name, located on the back of your router. You’ll be prompted to enter the password displayed on the back of the Spectrum router.

Step 4: Activate Service Online

  • Download the My Spectrum App to easily activate your services right from your mobile device. The My Spectrum App lets you manage your account and equipment right from your mobile device. You can also visit spectrum.net/selfinstall.

  • Or, after your device connects to our network, open an internet browser window, and you should see the Spectrum activation page. Sign in with your Spectrum username and password or create a Spectrum username, then follow the instructions.


Home Phone Self Installation Instructions:

Step 1: Connect the Modem (if not already done)

  • Follow the internet setup steps above.

  • ​

Step 2: Connect Your Phone

  • Plug the phone into a power outlet.

  • Connect one end of the phone cable to your phone's base station, and then connect the other end to Voice port 1 on the modem. If you're activating a second line, connect the second phone cable to port 2 on the modem.

 

Step 3: Confirm Activation
Pick up the phone and check for a dial tone. If you hear one, you're all set.

Xumo Stream Box Setup:

Your new Xumo Stream Box gives you access to live TV, On Demand, and popular streaming apps all in one place. Here’s how to set it up:

Step 1: Unbox and Connect

  • Connect the HDMI cable from the Xumo box to your TV.

  • Plug the power adapter into the box and a wall outlet.

​

Step 2: Power On and Pair Remote

  • Turn on your TV and switch to the correct HDMI input.

  • Follow on-screen prompts to pair your remote with the Xumo box.

  • If not prompted, press and hold the “OK” and “Home” buttons on the remote for 5 seconds to start pairing.

​

Step 3: Connect to the Internet

  • Choose your WiFi network and enter the password, or connect via Ethernet.

  • Once connected, the device will automatically check for updates.

​

Step 4: Sign In and Personalize

  • Sign in to your Spectrum account to unlock your live TV channels.

  • Add or sign into your favorite streaming apps (like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube).

Helpful Tips:

  1. To optimize your WiFi experience, place the WiFi router in a central location, away from household electronics such as baby monitors, microwaves and wireless headsets.
